Training #569: Rapid Book Cover Mock-Ups

We all need covers for our books, whether it’s a high resolution wrap for our print books, a lower resolution front cover image for our ebooks, or even just a cover that we can use to promote a lead magnet that will never be for sale…

We still need a cover that’s going to not only attract the eye of our ideal reader but will instantly tell them what sort of experience to expect from our book.

In this training, we introduce a tool that can help us create rapid cover mock-ups to experiment with the layout and content of our potential book covers. Specifically, over the course of this session, we generate over 130 book covers across a half dozen different books and genres in both fiction and non-fiction.

Many of the covers are not usable, but that's not the point. The idea is to spark your creative influences and see what works and what resonates with you even if it isn't the final cover you'll use.

Some of the covers may be good enough to use as is, especially for stand-alones that don’t need to match other books in a series exactly.

Even if a cover we generate isn’t ready for use as is, we may get some that could be ready to use with a little editing, either directly in the same place we are generating these covers or in an image editor like Photoshop or Canva.

Of course, we recommend that you hire a professional cover designer, but having these mock-ups may help you work with that professional, and for some people (either due to project needs or budgetary constraints) a professional or even a pre-made cover may not be in your budget.
