Creating an Automated Series Bible with A.I.

A series bible is the reference you keep for everything that carries from one book to the next: who your characters are and where they’ve been, the places they go, the rules of your world, and the plot threads you’ve opened and haven’t tied off yet. When it’s kept up to date, you can sit down to write the next book without rereading the last five, and you can catch the continuity slip before a reader does.

In Training #655, From Mind Maps to Story Maps, I showed you how to keep track of everything that lives between your chapters in Obsidian, and we clicked through a series bible I’d built from all fourteen Wizard of Oz books using a prompt. If you haven’t watched it yet, start there. It covers the Obsidian basics this bonus skips.

Since then, I’ve turned that prompt into a skill. Instead of filling in a prompt and walking the AI through each step, you start the skill and it interviews you about your books, then builds the whole vault for you.

It also goes further than the prompt did! Along with a note for every book, chapter, character, place, and object, it can track which plot threads are still open, record the rules of your world, flag the spots where your books contradict each other, and save a spoiler-safe snapshot of the bible as it stood after each book.

In this short video, I’ll show you how to install the skill, how to get your manuscripts ready, and the interview it walks you through before it starts building. Then we’ll ask Claude to use the finished Oz bible to find an idea for a new story. (Included is also the work used to create the series bible, so you can continue working in it without having to spend the approximately 4 million tokens up front!)
