Exploring Middle Grade Literature: Insights from a Librarian
In this training we are joined by Youth and Teen Services Librarian, Jocelyn Kelly, to explore the vibrant worlds of Middle Grade literature.
Jocelyn illuminates the distinctions between children's books (ages 8 and under), middle grade (ages 8-12) and YA (ages 12+), touching on appropriate themes, language, and content.
She also shares over 2 dozen authors across the most popular genres that kids and teenagers are reading that you should take a look at if you want to write for this audience, as well as discussing emerging trends and themes that are important to young readers today.
Jocelyn also shares her criteria for what books her library will acquire and what we need to do to make our books the next choice they pick up.
Check the resources below for a list of all of the authors, books, and series that were mentioned on this training.
