Training #653 — Language and Change

Look at what we covered in our last live training and how much of that list was about things changing. 

KDP changed its rules. Amazon changed its limits. Meta changed how ads work. A service that writes romance novels to order didn't exist a couple of years ago. 

We're used to watching our tools and our services move, and we check the news for it.

Language moves the same way. Slower, quieter, and nobody sends you an email when a word changes meaning.

Somewhere in your manuscript is a word that doesn't mean what you think it means. Not a typo; a word you've used correctly your whole life, that quietly shifted while you weren't looking. Your readers are using the new meaning. You're not.

On Tuesday, we're going down that rabbit hole on purpose.
