Training #644 – News, Copyright, and Adaptations

This week was heavy with news, followed by a hot seat for how to move forward with a stalled project.

We covered:

  • An audiobook survey of listener preferences
  • A new wholesale distribution option for small publishers
  • AI-detection at a popular social media site
  • A new trend for in-person conventions

We also covered quite a bit of copyright news, including a new European court ruling on software for getting around copyright, the upcoming changes to registration fees for US copyrights, and the line between copyright infringement, adaptation, and common research sources.

For our hot seat, we helped a member decide what to do with her screenplay adaptation, and whether it makes more sense to create a graphic novel or a non-fiction book on the subject matter and some ways to market the work once it is ready.
